Kigali Genocide Memorial
This is the most important and emotionally powerful site in Kigali. Located in Gisozi, the Kigali Genocide Memorial serves as a final resting place for over 250,000 victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The memorial is thoughtfully designed, offering informative and sobering exhibitions that detail the roots of ethnic conflict in Rwanda, the timeline of the genocide and the recovery process. There are also three permanent exhibitions: one dedicated to the genocide itself, another on genocides around the world and a moving children’s memorial. Visitors often leave with a deeper understanding of Rwandan resilience and a renewed appreciation for peace.
